Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis.
This remote role, which allows the successful candidate to work from home or on suitable premises, involves conducting data protection audits, preparing relevant policies, engaging with school management and stakeholders, preparing records of processing, drafting privacy notices, responding to data subject access requests, and vetting data processors.
This role requires infrequent travel, as well as online follow-ups with clients to ensure the highest standards of data protection are maintained.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive data protection audits to assess compliance with data protection laws and regulations.
- Prepare and update relevant data protection policies and procedures.
- Engage with school management and stakeholders to ensure awareness of and compliance with data protection policies.
- Prepare and maintain records of processing activities.
- Draft and update privacy notices to ensure transparency with data subjects.
- Respond to data subject access requests in a timely and compliant manner.
- Vet data processors to ensure they meet the necessary data protection standards.
- Provide training and awareness sessions to staff as required.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant data protection legislation and regulations.
- Collaborate with other professionals, both internally and externally, to ensure a coordinated approach to data protection.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Professional certification in data protection (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM) is desirable.
- Fellowship of IAPP desirable.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in data protection or a related field.
- Education Sector Experience.
- Excellent knowledge of data protection legislation and regulations (e.g., GDPR, UK Data Protection Act).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel nationwide as required.
- A valid driver’s licence.
Location
- Remote, with infrequent travel required.
